As a beginner guitarist it’s really important to get the basics of guitar playing sorted out from the start. I remember when I started playing guitar (hey! don’t be so cheeky it’s not that long ago), as I was saying, when I started playing guitar there were very few learning resources and certainly no internet, so we just made do and picked things up from listening to our favorite guitarists. It wasn’t until a few years ago that I actually realized that I hadn’t been holding my plectrum correctly for many years which hadn’t helped me with my lead guitar playing at all. Just something that simple can cost you, weeks, months or even years of hard work.

Believe me, you are really lucky if you’re just starting out because you can get the basics correct from the outset and save yourself from practicing hard at the wrong things. What you really want to avoid doing though is just jumping from one Youtube video to the next. That is really bad for learning!

I’ve reviewed 3 excellent guitar courses on this page, all at just amazing value, so I strongly suggest that you choose 1 and stick with it! As me old grandpa used to say..practice makes perfect and with guitar there are no truer words spoken.

A major rival to Jamorama, Team Method Guitar is an interesting course which has some very good reviews. The full course is quite pricey but is extremely involved, and like Jamorama caters for all levels. Multiple camera angles, and cutting edge animated graphics take you from an absolute beginner right through to playing some of the most advanced techniques around!

Express Guitar

I was really impressed with the Express Guitar course. What I particularly liked was the more laid back approach summed up in this testimonial:
“I can’t wipe the smile of my face now when I pick up my guitar! I don’t have any spare time in my business (busy pub) but Mike’s course allows me to fit in fifteen minutes of practice a day and see results.”
