Learn Some Great Songs On Guitar

Easy Guitar Songs >>

What I’m about to share with you has and will raise a few eyebrows, but please read it with an open mind. Learning to play some great songs on guitar is a really quick way to write songs on guitar too.

When writing a new song, the moment you create a melody and you’re happy with it you probably think that it sounds like someone else’s song. Don’t worry. This is a common feeling. What you need to understand is that ALL songs are actually recycled melodies and so every song has a part of the tune that is the same as another song.

In fact I’d go further and say that if your melody sounds familiar then that is a GOOD thing!

Now, I’m not talking about ripping another song off here. I’m just saying that parts of your songs can and will sound similar to other songs.

Why is this good? It means that people will instantly relate to your melody and will want to listen to it even more.

Remember this. Most people aren’t songwriters and cannot play an instrument, so the chances are most people won’t even realise where you have gained your inspiration for your song.

KILLER TIP COMING UP!

Here’s something I’ve done recently to give me some inspiration and come up with song ideas for songs very very quickly. All songwriters will do this at some point I guarantee!

I found and downloaded this little gem which teaches you how to play some really popular songs in double quick time using really easy to follow video tutorials. It’s fantastic and is a songwriters dream so I recommend that you get a copy!

So how do I use this? You should already have my ‘Chords That Love Each Other Chart’ right?

OK so take anyone of these great melodies, look at the chord sequence. OK, now replace each chord with a different one in my chord chart..e.g. Take the song Father & Son by Cat Stevens. There are 4 main chords G, D, C, AM7. Well looking at my chart I can identify that this song is in G major, so instead of these 4 chords I can replace them with 4 totally different ones e.g. Bm, F, Cm Em, (or any of the other 12 chords in this key) but the melody will still go. Get it? This works for any genre of music. You can then change the rhythm, words and of course tweak the melody and you very quickly have the basis of a new song. Remember I’m not saying rip off! I’m saying use a great song as a template for your song. You can just keep going and make several song from this one template.
